Yogyakarta – A team of lecturers from the Department of Civic Education, Yogyakarta State University (UNY), consisting of Prof. Dr. Sunarso, M.Si., Dr. Yayuk Hidayah, M.Pd., and Muhammad Fikri Alvinca, S.Pd., M.Pd., has successfully published a collaborative work entitled ‘The Paradigm of Civic Education (A Historical Perspective Towards the Digital Age)’. This book is a tangible manifestation of the academic contribution of UNY PKn lecturers in enriching the literature on civic education in Indonesia.

In this book, the authors present in-depth ideas about the evolution and new direction of civic education amid the challenges of the digital era. Through a historical and reflective approach, this work traces the development of the PKn paradigm from time to time—starting from the philosophical roots and values of Pancasila to the adaptation of the concept of digital citizenship that demands new competencies for 21st-century citizens.

Muhammad Fikri Alvinca, S.Pd., M.Pd., as the younger author in the team, emphasises that the involvement of academics from different generations is a strength in developing a comprehensive perspective. ‘We strive to unite historical and futuristic views so that civic education is not only a normative subject but also a transformative practice,’ he said.

It is hoped that the book ‘Paradigm of Citizenship Education (Historical Perspective Towards the Digital Era)’ can serve as an important reference for educators, students, and researchers in understanding and developing citizenship education that is deeply rooted in national values yet adaptable to the changing times.
